China pledges support for Pakistan

BEIJING: China has pledged its support to Pakistan's ally and close on Tuesday, after the United States announced it would suspend $ 800 million in security assistance to Islamabad.

"Pakistan is an important country in South Asia, and is closely linked to stability and development in Pakistan with peace and stability in South Asia," said a spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Kong Li.

"China has provided aid to Pakistan has always been, which helps to improve people's livelihood and the sustainable development of its economy and society, and China will continue to do so in the future."

President announced the United States President Barack Obama's staff, William Daley, in a television interview on Sunday that the U.S. decided to withhold nearly a third of the annual security aid to $ 2.7 billion to Islamabad.

This step has been reduced relations between Islamabad and Washington - already rocky after U.S. commandos killed the al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden May on Pakistani territory - to a new low.

But welcomed by the India, which accuses Pakistan has long provided a haven for militant groups and prompted the international community - the United States in particular - to blame Islamabad.
