HP's TouchPad let down by 'ho-hum' hardware

HP touch pad comes into the Australian market disk hustle quickly with average hardware features, but is an intriguing, if immature, and operating system.

And goes on sale for the touch pad here in the next week, and Harvey Norman is the only comprehensive retail store tool.

Unlike the fast-growing crowd on the basis of discs Google Android operating system, the touch pad is used webOS, which is the operating system that record when HP bought the business back pain in April of last year. While first developed for webOS smartphone Palm Berry, it was re-jigged to use a larger screen. There is nothing special about the hardware or the touch pad their prices compared with Apple and Android-based tablets. HP Tablet PC comes with either 16GB for $ 599 or 32GB for $ 699. Both Wi-Fi only. That's right, you can not buy the touch pad for 3G mobile Internet browsing, although HP says the 3G versions are likely at a later time.

In other markets, as well as the touch pad smartphone HP sells Fair, which also runs webOS and a natural companion to the touch pad because it contributed to the library itself, and application as a sidekick easy to connect the modem and the other concurrent duties.

HP says it has no plans to provide abundant here, but I think it will show up sooner or later. It has also undertaken to include the operating system quick boot and webOS secondary computers later this year.

The touch pad is not particularly svelte panels 9.7-inch screen, weighs 740g and measuring 240mm 190mm by 13.7mm - about the size and weight of the original Bad.

Shiny, black plastic shell of a very slippery, and a tool to present the case grippier. There is no microSD slot on the touch pad or a full-size USB port for on-board memory bump, as in the painting Iconia easier.

There is a 5 megapixel or better rear-facing camera for taking stills and movies, as in the Bad, and the rules of the game practiced by many of the Black and CD-robot.

There are 1.3 megapixel camera, a camera mounted on the front for video chats, but it can not be the footage.

And the microUSB port and one treated fed duties and communicate with accessories.

Battery life is up to eight hours, and dual-core processor 1.2GHZ 1GB of memory with handles load calculation.

While the machine is is, hum, and the operating system webOS touch is a joy to navigate - in the first place. It provides a proper application of multi-task and displays the open applications in a series of cards that appear on the screen that can be a reflection of the pressure with your finger. Click on a card with your finger and the application expands to fill the screen and battery from the bottom edge of the screen keys up again to put the card. Criticized the up card and the application, or close the window and document.

While the navigation screen and run the application is the best I have seen on a board, and the negative side is to open applications. The touch pad takes age to open applications or larger documents. It took about eight seconds to download the document to see the other player and the Quickoffice application at the same time, almost to the Quickoffice viewers to open the file PDF 285KB. Adobe Reader took just more than 12 seconds to load. And delayed the opening blows of the young operating system applications that have yet to be properly tweaked for speed.

As for the applications, there are 300 or more optimized for the touch pad webOS between the public library of about 8000.

To sell well in the face of competition here, you need to take HP to slash the price of health (as it did in the United States at the weekend), CD quickly webOS, the launch version of 3G, and Rafik Fair phones in the market here.
