The Ministry of Foreign Affairs that China hopes to be taken any decision on the appointment of the Director-General of the International Monetary Fund through "negotiation democracy", Thursday in a written statement - BEIJING (Dow Jones).  The statement came in response to a question on whether China will support the French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde as a candidate for the presidency of the International Monetary Fund, after Dominique Strauss-Kahn, who faces charges of sexual assault, and resigned from office.

The Ministry reiterated that the senior leadership of the International Monetary Fund should represent the best emerging countries, while the selection process should be open, transparent and merit-based.

Lagarde Wednesday launched her candidacy for this position in the International Monetary Fund.
